Words do this to us. They feed us even before we see. They build expectations. They are things too. And they lead us to see other things in a certain way. Words activated like and paired with the visual are the message.

Go On Girl, Spend It Like A German Bishop

Andrea Chesney

Whaaaaaattt?  So while you were debating over buying some fluffy new towels, the Bishop of Limburg in Germany (state of Hesse) was allegedly skipping along in his bishop boots and throwing down the big Euros to perk up his new bishop pad. So says a story in thelocal.de, an English-language German news-site discussing articles that appeared in Der Spiegel and Nassauische Neue Presse among other publications.

On October 11, 2013, one Euro equaled 1.36 U.S. Dollars. Now keep reading: Allegedly, when not praying, the bishop plunked down 25,000 Euros on a table and 15,000 on a nice bathtub.  On Friday, the Bild newspaper published a list of more of his buys. His new built-in closet was tagged at 350,000 Euro notes. Have to keep those fancy hats dust-free, eh? A commission is being put together by Germany’s Catholic Church to investigate the spending. Also being looked at: the bishop built himself a new homey headquarters where all this new stuff will go, but oops, costs somehow ran to 31 million Euros, ten times the bishop’s original estimate of 3 million Euros. His new garden allegedly cost 783,000 Euros. You know how expensive petunias and shrubs can be. Trivia: actor George Clooney paid about 10 million Euros for his Lake Como, Italy estate, though it is now worth more.
